Undergraduate Medical Education Strategic Plan

Thank you for engaging with the undergraduate medical program as we consider the priorities ahead. Your perspective and wisdom is much needed and appreciated.

Now more than ever, prioritizing and strategizing are of principle importance.
We are in the midst of a health workforce crisis impacting all aspects of our healthcare system, most especially primary care. In response, all Ontario medical schools are expanding. We increased by 14 seats in 2023. Toronto Metropolitan University will open a medical school in Bramption in 2025. Altogether, this will result in a 50% increase in MD spots across the province. Despite this expansion, significant financial pressures affect all Universities and programs. We need to be strategic about where we invest our limited program resources.

Our program is unique and innovative.
As one of two three year programs across the country, we pride ourselves in a problem-based, self-directed program that is anchored around distributed education. Our students are highly successful, with first-time licensing exam pass rates well in excess of 90%, and postgraduate training match rate success in excess of 95%. In fact, 85% of our students match to one of their top 3 programs. This is a direct result of the support we provide, with 1 in 2 students guided by the Student Progress Committee and 1 in 8 students supported by a professional process over the 3 year curriculum.

This survey will ask for your perspective around our mission, strengths / weaknesses / opportunities, threats, and priorities within five strategic planning domains.

Your responses will be used to help a) identify and fill gaps in the program's strategic plan; b) validate the priority among needs and initiatives proposed; and c) gauge awareness and ongoing relevance of initiatives addressed in last three years.
